![]() ![]() I've barely scratched the surface of the new changes and it's been interesting to relearn the game so to speak with the new mechanics. I'm not ready to throw my hands up and say 'Screw this game, I hate it now' like some others seem to be doing. If I'm wrong about this, feel free to correct me as it seems like there is no bonus damage to headshots without the perks. I'm of the opinion that the lack of a natural head shot bonus seems silly. That's not to say, having perks that build on a baseline head shot damage bonus isn't unreasonable. I understand this stuff is hard to balance without making the content obscenely trivial or stupid hard, but locking all headshot damage bonuses behind perks is something I can't get behind. I wasn't that bothered by it at first, and figured I could go into the items.xml and tweak the headshot damage like I did with previous versions, only to find that the head shot damage multiplier was removed from all the weapons. Mind you, these are 7.62 rounds and should be leaving sizable holes in things. Zombie Lumberjacks took 3 and the Bikers took 3-4. sometimes it took one, but more often than not it took two. ![]() I thought myself lucky enough to find a hunting rifle and 13 rounds for it, but that glee disappeared when I couldn't drop a normal bottom of the barrel zombie in one head shot. That is going to take some getting used to if this is indeed how things work now.Īnd then we come to how head shot damage is calculated. I've even looted a room that was devoid of enemies, went to an adjacent room and came back, only to find several sleepers had magically appeared within that 5 seconds. I may be wrong about this, but do the zombies 'spawn in' around the player now? Too often I've seen zombies just appear out of thin air near me while I was looting a campsite or a car, and several times it was a zombie bear. These are just trivial issues for me personally, and not something I'd consider game-breaking. Dying to infection within the first few hours due to the new tit for tat melee combat changes is also not my idea of fun and the stamina mechanic will take some getting used to. Admittedly, the slower leveling and uphill struggle of the early game hours just to stay alive will make the survival game masochists very happy, but I personally get no enjoyment out of restarting several times due to bad map placement or having an undead bear 'pop in' right next to me as I'm trying to find a place to set up. You can tell this is a labor of love for them. Overall, I like and appreciate the time and effort the Devs have poured into the game. ![]()
